Meditation |
The sitting meditation is based on the practices described by the Buddha some 2500 years ago, but is taught here as a non-sectarian activity, accessible to people of all traditions, including agnosticism. Sitting meditation brings the body to stillness, the mind to rest, and the attention inward. Meditation practice invites us to release our obsession with the past and the future, while learning to inhabit each present moment more fully. In time, experiencing the full spectrum of thoughts and feelings as they play out across our minds, we learn to make friends with all aspects of ourselves. Self-compassion arises, and compassion for others soon follows.

With further practice, by bringing our attention to the spaces between the thoughts and feelings, we can discover unsuspected depths of stillness and being, and cultivate our capacity for contentment, appreciation, and peace. When the practice of sitting meditation is undertaken with self-discipline, patience, and openness, the potential benefits are limitless. Whatever your level of experience, with the assistance of respectful and experienced guidance, you will find our retreats to be a fertile environment in which your practice can grow. |
